Hello and welcome to The Daring Cardmakers blog!
We are a team of card-makers from the UK, mainland Europe and India who'll try to inspire and encourage you to make some wonderful cards.
Every Friday at about 10am UK time, one of our design team will post a new dare/challenge, along with our creations to get you inspired.
So go on, give it a try - we dare you!
Leave us a comment with a link to your card so that we can view your lovely creations too!
Beckie here today with a 'Springing' Challenge for you!
Spring is here (honestly!!)
I love it when the seasons changes from winter to spring and the air is filled with new life!
Today I would like to challenge you to make a card with a 'spring' on it somewhere. The design team have come up with some amazing creations to help inspire you! Some of the creations have 'springs' to make them 'wobble'!
And now for a little special treat for one lucky person!
This week digital stamp store 'Little Blue Button' is sponsoring the dare and have a $10 gift certificate to give away!
All you need to do is leave a link as usual to show us your finished creation and you'll be entered into the prize draw. The winner will be picked at random and announced ahead of next week's dare (Friday 5th April). Big thank you to Little Blue Button for offering this cool prize! Don't forget to check out their store, http://digitaldesignsby.blogspot.co.uk/ maybe there's something there to inspire your 'Springy' card creation!
You've probably also seen this trend taking off in the stamping world too. I didn't realise just how effective and easy it could be to incorporate this look on handmade cards until Betsy Veldman shared her fantastic tutorial on just this technique on her blog here.
So this week I've challenged the design team and you to...
Create a card that pays homage to the chalkboard look
Ideally I would love it if you could try the heat embossing technique, but if you don't have the supplies there are plenty of fonts and printables out there that you could use to replicate the look.
Here are the gorgeous cards the design team created:
We loved seeing all that type last week. Now we want to see some sharp shapes. Geometry is all the rage in cardmaking so we would like to see geometric shapes in play as you
Make a cute angle
its a play on words really - "a cute angle" is like "acute angle" get it? Or perhaps not... If you can make your acute angle cute then that would be fab too. However you interpret the dare we would love to see the results. Here is the team's take ...
Big thank you to everyone that joined in with Sharon's Colour Combo challenge last week it was fab to see all your lovely chocolatey limey cards!
This week it's Leo here and your new challenge is:
I'd like you to use typography as the main basis for your card design. Typography is basically putting together letters and/or words to form an aesthetically pleasing or artistic design/arrangment. So you're making the letter/words the main embelishment of your card.
Thanks to everyone that joined in with Kathy's yummy chocolate dare last week. Looking at all your fabulous chocolatey creations made our mouths water!
Before anything else we'd like to send a "Get Well Soon" message to our lovely Jo - we hopes that you'll soon be fit and well and back sharing your fab and fun creations with us all before too long
Now....we're thrilled to announce that we have a fabulous new Guest Designer joining us for the next couple of months. Please say "hello" to Svenja Koester We are soooo sure you're going to love seeing what she creates - her work is really stunning and you can see more by visiting her BLOG Our next news is that Beckie has agreed to stay with us as a regular team member - it's so good that we will be seeing lots more of her amazing creations.
And now, back to business! It's Sharon here and as it's the first Friday in the month it's time for our monthly colour combo. I've chosen this lovely photo for this month:
And we've come up with some fabulous inspiration for you:
